What is Craftsman Ave?
Craftsman Ave is a creative community and a maker space based in Gowanus Brooklyn. We offer a range of hands-on workshops that are taught by local makers, designers and artists from many different fields.
Where are you located?
What kind of classes are you offering?
We learn by doing, and offer classes that encourage you to do the same. Our artists teach classes on chocolate making, jewelry design, leather-working, and everything in between. Each hands-on experience gives you the freedom to explore a new passion, create something of your own, and join our community of makers and creators.
What are the structure of the workshops?
We keep our class sizes small to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to create something amazing. Each workshop is between 2-3h. Because classes are taught by local artisans, they have the opportunity to share tips & tricks as well as making sure that you reach your goal of the class. With smaller classes, the emphasis is put on your own voice and creativity, and allows the artist to show you how to properly execute the basics of the craft and create exactly what you imagined.
Can I work on my own projects?
Yes, absolutely! Our memberships are an extra way to gain studio time in a fully-equipped space. We know space is tight in New York. With this in mind, we want to open our studio to artists within the community and provide a place to bring ambitions to life. Our memberships allow full-access to the tools, space, and anything you need to get going on your latest creation.
What kind of tools and equipment do you provide?
We tried to fill our studio with all kinds of different tools that would enable you to learn many different skills. Here is a summary of our constantly growing tools list: Bandsaw, drill-press, scroll-saw, jig-saw, table-saw, powerdrills, grinders, buffing and polishing wheels, 175 AMP Tig Welder, Sandblasting cabinet, Air Compressor, sewing machines, a range of hand and power tools.
Can I become a teacher?
Of course! If you are interested in teaching a class, fill out this page and feel free to reach out with any questions!
What about safety?
We know shop-tools and a workshop environment can be intimidating. Safety is on the top of our list. Each student and member will get a free safety course in how to use all the tools and equipment in a safe and responsible way.
The introductory classes will not involve any heavy or dangerous machinery and each student will sign a waiver before taking a class.
What if I can’t make it to my workshop?
Craftsman Ave has a 24 hour cancellation / rescheduling policy.
If you miss your appointment, cancel or change your appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will not be refunded or get the possibility to reschedule.
This policy is in place out of respect for our artists and our other paying customers. Cancellations with less
than 24 hours notice are difficult to fill. By giving last minute notice or no notice at all, you prevent someone else from being able to schedule into that time slot
If you purchased through Coursehorse or Verlocal or Vimbly then our Refund & Cancellation policy applies to your purchase. If you are entitled to a refund, or have any questions, please contact CourseHorse here..
