In this course, Erica will walk you through the process of creating your own bars of soap. With an emphasis on the long-lasting quality of handmade and slow-made objects, Erica’s work results in high-quality aromas and colors that are integral to a well-made product. Here, she will break down the process for you step-by-step to show you the basics of creating your own combination of scents and textures. By the end of the class, you will leave with your own batch (about 1 pound, or 4 bars) of your very own soap.
What you will learn
You will start with the basics of soap-making, including an introduction to the ingredients and techniques of creating a personalized blend. You will work with a combination of lye, oils, and scents to create the perfect mixture for your skin. This class will immerse you in the quality of a high-quality, lasting object that is tailored to you, while giving you the skills to experiment with your own creations at home.
Erica current runs her own brand, Amelia Brooklyn, as a product-based business that infuses ceramics, fiber art, herbal medicine studies and apothecary. All of her products are made with extreme care and attention at her studio space in Greenpoint. Erica has spent a considerable amount of time working with a variety of mediums, but has constantly been inspired by the beauty and simplicity of nature. Her work is an effort to show the magic of creating something simple with care and attention in contrast to the highly-industrialized world around us.
