What To Expect
It doesn’t just happen.
You don’t grab a block of wood, slap it onto a blade, and call it a day. No — this takes patience. Craftsmanship. A quiet conversation between hand, metal, and timber.
Pick up the block. Feel it. It has character — dense, unwilling to bend to the elements. You trace your knife blank’s silhouette onto the wood, then take it to the band saw. Two identical halves emerge. You carefully drill the holes for your cutlery rivets, aligning them perfectly with the existing steel. Book-match them. It’s already a work of art before the first drop of glue touches the metal.
Mix your two-part epoxy. Don’t be shy with it. You need a steadfast, unyielding bond — one that can withstand the rigors of the kitchen or the unforgiving wilderness. Coat the exposed tang. Press the wooden scales firmly into place. Now comes the pin stock. They slip through wood and steel like a ship finding its harbor. You drive them in — gently, methodically.
Take a breath. Let it cure.
The glue is hard as stone. You pick up a rasp, followed by increasingly fine grades of sandpaper. You sand, you shape, you refine — blending wood and metal until you can no longer feel the seam where one ends and the other begins.
It fits your hand perfectly. Weighty. Balanced. Inevitable.
A touch of Odie’s oil, and the grain of the wood deepens before your eyes, coming alive in your palm. It’s exactly the kind of tool you’ve been looking for.
It just took you to make it.
