What You’ll Be Doing: Shaping your blade with copious amounts of heat and hammers, plus some help from a grinder, then twisting some hot steel for your handle!

Whether you’ve swung a hammer before or you’re just ready to channel your inner warrior, this immersive bladesmithing workshop will ignite your passion for fire, steel, and raw craftsmanship. You’re about to forge more than just a knife — you’re about to forge a legend.
In this hands-on American Folk Art experience, you’ll transform a historic railroad spike into a custom knife of your own design using time-honored knifesmithing techniques. Expect fire, muscle, and a whole lot of sparks.
First, we heat things up — literally.
You’ll step up to the forge and heat your spike until it glows a fierce red, then hammer away at the anvil like a true blacksmith. Strike by strike, you’ll shape your blade with power and precision, crafting the perfect profile.
Next, you’ll twist the handle into a unique design using a special vice and twisting tool — an arm workout you won’t soon forget, but one that pays off in style.
Once the rough shape is forged, it’s time to refine. Fire up the grinder and carve the bevel — the cutting edge — bringing your blade to life with each pass.
Then comes the moment of truth: the quench.
You’ll heat your blade one final time and plunge it into oil. Flames may leap. Cameras should roll. It’s hot, dramatic, and pure Forged in Fire glory.
While your blade cools, take a breather. Grab a legendary slice from Table 87 down the block, kick back in our lounge, swap stories, and enjoy the vibe — you’ve earned it.
Finally, you’ll finish your masterpiece by wire-buffing the handle to a shine and honing the blade to a razor edge. You’ll walk out with a stunning, hand-forged knife, sore arms, and the pride of having forged something timeless with your own hands.
